Dept. Travis Junior
Junior
AKA:----

Portrayed by:Robert Ben Garant

First seen:Pilot

Episode Count:88

Early Life[]

Deputy Travis Junior ran in a trailer park gang called the Dixie mafia when he was in 8th grade. He then joined the U.S. Army, and served in the Iraq war right out of high school. He was given the Medal of Honor for killing so many Arabs and being an American Freedom Machine. He joined the Reno Sheriff's Department soon after this.

He has three brothers, all of whom have a first name followed by "Junior." This is because Junior is not a name designation, it is their last name. Their beaver trapper ancestors were French, named Junier, and came over from France after the American Civil War.

Sheriff's Dept.[]

Deputy Junior trains the police dogs for the department. He is rarely seen without his trademark aviator sunglasses. When asked to remove them by then DA, Mike Powers, it is revealed that Junior has terrible eyesight; not even being able to tell how many fingers are being held up from a very short distance away. Despite this, Junior does not seem impeded by his poor eyesight as he regularly operates a police cruiser without much issue, does not seem to have a problem reading, and claims to be the best marksman in the department.

It is heavily implied that Junior is an alcoholic. Several of the deputies note Junior's distinct smell of booze and not showering due to his tub being occupied by "Tinschlager", a homemade alcohol that Junior produces similar to "Goldschlager" but with aluminum flakes instead of gold. When working, he always wears his Kevlar vest over his uniform shirt (instead of under it, as a police officer normally would). He is the one who points out that Kevlar is to be worn under the uniform when the female detectives are parading around in tight new Kevlar. When asked why he does so, Junior says he only puts it on the outside on days where he is hung over. Dangle states that Junior has worn his vest over his uniform every single day for over 11 years.

There are several running gags concerning Junior.

  • Traffic stop: Junior pulls over a driver and is usually knocked out or otherwise rendered incapacitated by an opening door or something falling off of the vehicle.
  • Dangle's bike: Another running gag with Junior involves his being the individual who steals or otherwise tampers with Lt. Dangle's chained bicycle, much to Dangle's annoyance and frustration.
  • Violence: The other running gags usually involve him being mauled by dogs, beaten by people, set on fire or doing dangerous falls.

Love Life[]

He has been shown to have flings, but never any steady relationships, with women. He openly patronizes prostitutes at legal brothels. He has a fondness for women of Asian descent.

After a while of guessing Kimball's sexuality, he gave fellow deputy Kimball an "officer down" radio call and pretended that his gunshot wound was grave in an attempt to trick her into having sex with him out of sympathy. In the course of what she thought was a conversation with a person about to die, the two exchange information on their family backgrounds; Kimball and Junior gradually realize that they share a common uncle in Louisiana. Despite this, there is a fondness for each other that continues from that point on.

He was briefly married by accident. When the department was running a prostitution sting, he went undercover as a purchaser of a mail-order bride and signed a marriage certificate that he believed was fake and also had the lady's signature on it. By law they were officially married and she moved into his Winnebego with him. The relationship was full of confusion and no satisfaction to the lady; Junior seemed quite happy despite his being physically attacked if he ever touched her. She later stole the Winnebego with Junior and Dangle in pursuit as she threw his clothes and porn out the windows. After Junior attempted to talk to her, she pitched him out the window and he landed in a ditch, making Dangle stop as she sped off, never to be heard from again.

As of Season 7 he is married to "Mrs. Junior," a woman of Korean descent (played by Garant's real-life wife Cathy Shim), and has a daughter. Surprisingly, the marriage appears to be a stable and happy one, although his wife's mother does not seem to like him much.

Hobbies and Interests[]

Loves beer, NASCAR, firearms, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and perhaps most of all, his moustache.
