Early life
Coast Guard
Dangle was a former member of the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Hawaii and who was discharged from the Coast Guard for reasons undisclosed. At some point during his Coast Guard days, Dangle presumeably fathered a son (a result of sex with what he thought was a drag queen), but DNA results proved otherwise.

Jim Dangle has served with the Reno Sherif's department for over ten years and is the highest ranking deputy . Dangle is also the subject of a running gag in which his police bicycle is stolen or vandalized after leaving it briefly. It is hinted that Deputy Travis Junior is responsible for some of these incidents. In "Fireworks," Dangle's age is noted as 41.

Dangle was married to Deb for many years, until she filed for divorce so she could marry Leslie. Leslie eventually left Deb for Dangle.
